Be as clear and as specific as possible; avoid vague words. A strong thesis statement justifies discussion. If readers strongly disagree with you right off the bat, they may stop reading.

Please do not use this list as a model for the format of your own reference list, as it may not match the citation style you are using. Do not expect to come up with a fully formulated thesis statement before you have finished writing the paper. You probably should aim for a single sentence that is at least two lines, or about 30 to 40 words long.
